In every corner of this country simple farmers and small producers make the best products out of the Greek land. With lots of care and love produce the raw materials, products with high nutritional value and the best quality.
They gather one by one every drop of oil the olive trees of Crete can offer, every single thread of saffron in Kozani, every drop of mastic gum in Chios, every twig of wild mountain tea by the mountains of Macedonia and so much more than these.
It is not about companies or landowners, it’s all about small cottage industries and family handicrafts that confront daily with nature’s elements trying to cope with every day’s needs out of their production
As production in most of these family industries is small, these producers cannot enter the process of certifying their agricultural products because of the large financial burden and red tape required. However, this does not mean that quality is less than in the usual packaged products of the trade. No matter how much certification an organically grown oregano can take, it cannot reach in any case the fine aroma and taste of the wild oregano that leaf by leaf is collected straight from the steep slopes of the massifs of Macedonia, where it naturally grows.
No matter the high quality of the olive oil you get at the markets, none can reach the purity of the extra virgin olive oil that a small producer in Crete or Volos makes, after collecting by hand the olives from the trees and cold pressing them just to produce half a tone of olive oil that if not sold keeps for his family.
